TWILIGHT, NEW MOON, ECLIPSE, BREAKING DAWN

So, from the images above, you can probably guess that I am a fan of the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer. I went about discovering the books in a backwards way . . . I saw the movie (Twilight) first, then read all four books in quick succession (in about 6 days, actually) over Christmas vacation from school. Then I read them all again. And now I am on my way through them again. I don't think that I have ever read a book twice (or at least not without waiting a few years in between). But there is something about the writing and the story that draws the reader in and holds your attention throughout. My husband thinks that I have lost my mind, and is about to throw me out. =) He can’t believe that I can just sit and read for entertainment (he reads for information), and he about fell over when I chose to read in the other room rather than watch one of my favorite reality shows last night. Hahaha.
The media targets teens as the main audience, but adults are drawn to the series as well. (I have read that the books were not originally meant to be for teens, but I don’t know how reliable the source is.) It isn’t necessarily a high school/teen romance, but it is set that way. Both parties are somewhat older than their years, though for different reasons. The author is able to put into words how it feels to awkwardly fall in love in high school, all the bliss as well as turmoil in the mind, heart, and stomach (gotta love those butterflies). She takes you through the different stages of love . . . selfishness, selflessness, sacrifice, insecurity, trust, etc. She makes everything real. If you have been through it yourself, you remember, if you haven’t yet, you dream and anticipate. She throws in obstacles and humanness (though Edward is a vampire) that must be overcome. As I read, I find myself wearing a big grin, laughing out loud, and even crying. My family thinks I’m crazy.
The Twilight series is a happy place to be. There is hope, sincerity, and love. I think that it even helps me to have a better outlook on life by allowing me an escape from the daily grind.
If you haven’t read these awesome books, I encourage you to do so. And I hope you enjoy them as much as I did . . . I mean, do.
